Changes are quietly coming to downtown Baltimore around the Inner Harbor, with the spring pegged to mark the opening of several new businesses.
The state?s first Urban Outfitters is coming to Light Street Pavilion of Harborplace, and at least two new retailers are coming to the Gallery across the street on East Pratt Street, according to Carmel Gambacorta, senior marketing manager of Harborplace and the Gallery.
The coming of Urban Outfitters to a 13,500-square-foot site on the second floor of Harborplace will bring a new dimension to the shopping plaza, Gambacorta said.
“It will be one of those destination shops because it will be the only store in the area,” she said. “It will be a new market for us, too.”
Urban Outfitters caters to the under 25-year-old crowd who favor trendy fashions. It also offers home accessories and shoes.
Also at Harborplace, Capital Restaurant Concepts Ltd. is renovating its Paolo?s restaurant site and will reopen sometime in the coming months, Gambacorta said.
Farther east on Pratt Street, at Lockwood Place, a Filene?s Basement is taking shape.
Filene?s spokeswoman Patricia Boudrot said the 30,000-square-foot location is scheduled to open March 29.
While she said there is “it a lot of work to be done” on the second-floor space at 600 E. Pratt St., Filene?s will take possession of the site on Feb. 26, “which means we can start stocking it.”
Filene?s will host a three-week job fair beginning Feb. 19 at the Residence Inn on Light Street to recruit for the 119 positions it will have at its downtown Baltimore store.
