‘CNN has a tenuous claim on being a news outlet’: Tucker Carlson rakes network over negative Trump coverage

Fox News host Tucker Carlson chided CNN for its coverage of President Trump’s coronavirus response briefing.

On his show Monday night, Carlson tore into the network Trump loves to call “fake news” after it ran banners on the lower third of the screen mocking the president for sharing a video highlighting praise of his response to the pandemic.

The host compared CNN to an “Oberlin women’s studies professor” who writes angry manifestos against the president on social media.

“At today’s presidential press briefing, the president was asked, ‘Why did you downplay the coronavirus initially?’ And he responded by playing back clips showing that the press did the same,” Carlson said.

“CNN has a tenuous claim on being a news outlet in the best of times, but by the end of today’s briefing they were like an Oberlin women’s studies professor posting screeds on Facebook,” Carlson added, showing examples of the chyrons CNN used, including one that said: “Angry Trump turns briefing into propaganda session.”

CNN has been criticized for cutting away from parts of the near daily White House coronavirus task force briefings, during which Trump sometimes criticizes the media. CNN has also been chastised for describing Trump and his administration’s use of the phrases “Wuhan virus” and “Chinese virus” as racist and xenophobic, when earlier this year, as the coronavirus first hit the United States, the network and others had reports that used the same sort of language.
