Democrats across the state are pushing former Virginia Governor and Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine to run for the seat of retiring U.S. Sen. Jim Webb, D-Va., these days (although U.S. Rep. Bobby Scott, D-Va., is reportedly weighing a bid, too).
And Kaine apparently got a little prod from the White House on Tuesday as well.
From the Associated Press:
President Barack Obama is nudging Democratic Party chief Tim Kaine toward a run for Senate, saying he’d be an outstanding lawmaker.
Obama delivered the plug Tuesday while Kaine was nearby at a Democratic fundraiser.
Obama joked about speculation that Kaine was considering “plunging back into the hurly burly of electoral politics” and said he’d be outstanding in the Senate.

Kaine recently told a college class he is “increasingly likely” to run for the seat, according to the DNC, and Democrats are coalescing around the opinion that he would be the strongest candidate to run in 2012.
Republican candidates include former Sen. George Allen, Tea Party activist Jamie Radtke, and Hampton Roads attorney David McCormick.
