LONG BEACH, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island police officer on patrol in the city of Long Beach has been injured in a crash.
Officials say the officer, who was not identified, suffered broken legs, knee caps and hands.
The crash happened at about 12:30 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Broadway and Edwards Boulevard.
The officer was responding to a disturbance call when a Mercedes Benz allegedly ran a red light and collided with the officer’s SUV.
The driver of the Mercedes was issued a summons for running a red light.
Four occupants of the Mercedes were not injured.
