SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says it has reached a proposed settlement with Niagara Mohawk to clean up a Superfund site in Saratoga Springs.
Under the settlement, Niagara Mohawk will perform soil and ground water cleanup work valued at $6.5 million, and pay 100 percent of EPA’s future oversight costs. It also will pay all of EPA’s costs from April 2013 through the date the court approves the settlement.
The site was once used to manufacture gas from coal and contains hazardous substances that were produced as byproducts and disposed of on site.
