Warnock raises more than $5 million since January, prompting head start to next year’s Senate race

Sen. Raphael Warnock is getting an early start on his reelection campaign, bringing in more than $5 million in donations in the first few months of 2021.

HERSCHEL WALKER CONSIDERING US SENATE BID IN GEORGIA

The Georgia Democrat, who narrowly won a January runoff election against former GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler, brought in $5.7 million from over 100,000 donors between January and March.

“In just a few short months, Senator Reverend Warnock has proven he delivers for Georgia and quickly passed coronavirus relief that included stimulus checks, relief for small businesses and resources for communities hit hardest by this pandemic,” the Warnock campaign told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

While the haul is massive, it is still dwarfed by the nearly $150 million Warnock raised ahead of his successful runoff earlier this year, one of two Georgia special elections that handed Democrats control of the Senate. With Warnock and Sen. Jon Ossoff’s victories, Democrats were able to split the formerly GOP-controlled Senate 50-50, giving Vice President Kamala Harris the role to break tie votes.

Warnock will compete for a full six-year term next year in what’s expected to be a highly competitive midterm election year.

The senator has at least one Republican challenger, ex-Navy SEAL Latham Saddler, who announced his bid on Friday.

Former NFL star Herschel Walker, as well as Loeffler, have also been floated as potential challengers. Walker would have the endorsement of former President Donald Trump if he were to enter the race.
