WATCH: Police officers heroically save mother and children from flash flood

A pair of police officers are receiving praise for saving at least three people from a flash flood in southern California.

The pair saved a mother and her two children after they became trapped in the water, according to a Tuesday report.

The children were aged 6 and 14, the report noted.

Video of the rescue was posted to social media, and it was announced that the family had contacted police about an unrelated issue prior to being swept away.

Police had arrived on the scene to carry out an investigation, but they soon realized they were going to have to perform a rescue, the report noted.

“As I am debriefing [the other officers] we notice the mother and her two children fall into the water and start washing away,” San Bernardino Police Department Officer Gabriel Rodriguez said.

The water was very powerful, and the officers had to hold on to one another to rescue the family.

“So, they held on to me as I tried to walk the family back to the other side of the road,” officer Tommy Tran said.

The video of the incident was taken by SoCal News, and the San Bernadino Police Department thanked the outlet for capturing the footage.

“Our officers do not encounter swift water floods often, however it doesn’t stop them from jumping into action and saving lives.”
