Gabe Klein is leaving his job as the director of the District’s Department of Transportation Director on Jan. 1, one day before Vince Gray is scheduled to innaugurated as mayor.
Klein, who sheparded in the city’s bike lanes and helped make streetcars a reality, told reporters Wednesday morning that Gray informed Klein he would not be re-hired via a letter Tuesday night.
Klein said he hasn’t spoken to Gray in three months.
He also described Gray’s taking streetcar funding out of the city’s budget in the spring as a “kerfuffle.”
