The Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro station has lost power and can’t accept fares but is still open using back-up lighting and trains are still running through the station, Metro said Monday afternoon. The outage occurred around 2 p.m. after high water and flooding in the area disrupted Pepco service to the station, according to Metro’s Twitter account.
The outage is affecting station lighting, elevators, escalators and fare collection equipment. That means the equipment is unable to collect fares from customers exiting the station, said Metro spokeswoman Angela Gates. In addition, customers entering the station cannot scan their farecards.
Gates said Pepco is on the scene and attending to the outage.
