A poll conducted on behalf of U.S. Rep. Frank Kratovil’s campaign shows the incumbent freshman Democrat holding a 5-point lead against former state Sen. Andrew Harris, who he defeated by a razor-thin margin in 2008.
Kratovil led Harris, 44 percent to 39 percent, with 17 percent undecided, according to a survey conducted June 15-16 by the Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group. The survey was of 403 likely voters and had a margin of error of +/- 5 points.
Kratovil defeated Harris by fewer than 3,000 votes in 2008 to become the first Democrat in 18 years to win the seat in the Republican-leaning First District.
Harris officially filed his candidacy on Tuesday. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report currently ranks the race a “toss-up.”
