Landlord could face690 years in jail
The District will slap a 2,800-count criminal complaint against a landlord over housing code violations, the D.C. attorney general’s office announced Thursday. David Cormier, the owner of an 22-unit apartment building at 3228 Hiatt Place NW., failed to correct housing violations. Each of the counts carries a maximum penalty of 90 days of incarceration, officials said. – Scott McCabe
Protesters busted
Three people were arrested Thursday at Lafayette Park duringa demonstration to protest fines levied over the anti-war signs posted around the city. U.S. Park Police arrested Tina Richards, Adam Kokesh and Ian Thompson. Richards and Kokesh were charged with defacing public property. Thompson was charged with impeding an officer.
The ANSWER Coalition has been fined more than $30,000 in the last three weeks for posting signs around the District. – Scott McCabe
Suspect shot by police
U.S. Park Police officer shot a man after a police chase on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway Thursday afternoon. The driver pulled over on the parkway at Good Luck Road and the officer fired a round into the car, striking the driver, the lone occupant of the vehicle. The driver, a 30-year-old male from D.C., was being treated with non-life-threatening injuries. – Scott McCabe
Man shoots himself in leg
A 21-year-old man from Baltimore shot himself in the leg after he allegedly robbed a vendor at the Washington Nationals game Wednesday night. Police said the suspect robbed a vendor, fled from security guards and jumped a fence into the player’s parking area. The suspect, who was a former employee of a stadium food vendor, apparently shot himself accidentally in the pursuit, police said. – Scott McCabe
