1 Gaithersburg police officer fired, 2 suspended

One Gaithersburg police officer has been fired and two have been suspended over misconduct allegations.

Gaithersburg police said in a statement that three officers recently had their police powers suspended due to “serious, unrelated allegations of misconduct.” On Wednesday, one of the officers was fired, the statement said.

Police would not disclose the names of the officers or the nature of the allegations. Officer Dan Lane, a Gaithersburg police spokesman, said the suspensions were a personnel matter and the officers aren’t expected to face criminal charges. Lane would not describe any other identifying information about the officers, including their genders or how long they had been on the force.

The fired officer and one of the suspended officers had been assigned to patrol duties. The other suspended officer was assigned to administrative duties, Lane said.

A Montgomery County police spokeswoman said she wasn’t aware of any investigation by Montgomery police into officers on the Gaithersburg force.
