WHAT: NSF funded research by Jianguo “Jack” Liu of Michigan State on the effect of societal norms in a mammoth government program called “Grain to Green” that pays farmers to convert cropland back to forestland.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: The program is in China. And the Chinese government already did a survey of households in Wolong Nature Reserve on the effects government subsidies and peer pressure have on enrollment in the conservation program.
