The fire at an Alexandria condominium that killed a dog was intentionally set, according to Fairfax County fire and rescue officials.
Authorities said 38-year-old Lavina Herbert is charged with burning of an occupied building and animal cruelty for allegedly setting fire in a condominium at 3853 Tiburon Place, where she lived. The blaze was set shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
A dog was killed and four people have been displaced. No one else was hurt.
Fire department spokesman Dan Schmidt said he didn’t know the motive for the blaze. Schmidt said the fire damage was contained mainly to the top floor of the two-story building.
