During his show Friday night, HBO’s Bill Maher tore apart Megyn Kelly’s sit-down interview with Donald Trump, claiming the Fox News personality broadcast a “profile in cowardice.”
The “Real Time” host questioned Kelly’s journalistic chops and said part of the reason her feud with the presumptive presidential nominee went on for so long was because other members of the media had praised “her as a genius because she asked one tough question.”
Kelly lit a fire under Trump during the first GOP primary debate hosted by Fox News when she grilled the billionaire about incendiary comments he’d previously made to women.
For months after their heated exchange, Maher said, Trump had responded by publicly “belittling” Kelly in interviews and late-night Twitter rants. “Then she comes begging him for an interview, where she says ‘nothing is going to be out of bounds,'” Maher said. “You know what was out of bounds? Journalism. She didn’t ask one tough question.”
“It was a profile in cowardice,” he added.
Kelly’s primetime special with the real estate mogul aired last month and featured the two discussing their feud, while also digging deeper into Trump’s upbringing and his brother’s fatal battle with alcoholism.
“Well, that is it. Well done Megyn —- and they all lived happily ever after!” Trump tweeted shortly after the interview aired.
