President Trump praised the people of Florida for their resilience in the face of adversity as he left the Sunshine State Thursday afternoon.
“Just left Florida for D.C. The people and spirit in THAT GREAT STATE is unbelievable. Damage horrific but will be better than ever!” Trump tweeted Thursday afternoon.

Trump and Vice President Mike Pence each traveled from Washington, D.C. to Florida midday Thursday, and met with local and federal officials there to learn about the disaster from Hurricane Irma.
“Am leaving now for Florida to see our GREAT first responders and to thank the U.S. Coast Guard, FEMA etc. A real disaster, much work to do!” Trump tweeted Thursday morning.
Both received a briefing around 11 a.m. EST at an airplane hanger in Fort Myers on relief efforts. The two then separately flew 40 miles south to Naples, also located on the west coast of the Sunshine State.
Shortly after noon, both visited with people affected by Hurricane Irma in Naples.
Trump left Naples and returned to Fort Myers and departed Florida 20 minutes later for Washington, D.C. Trump and first lady Melania Trump will host the White House Historical Association for dinner at 7 p.m.
Pence followed Trump’s lead and returned to Washington about an hour afterward.
