British TV host Piers Morgan was called an “idiot” on national TV after he questioned why a protester planning to join mass demonstrations in London against President Trump’s hard-line immigration approach didn’t also object to former President Barack Obama’s high rate of deportations.
“I’ll be marching in Westminster alongside thousands of other people who found the policy of forced separation unconscionable, who think the sight of our elected prime minister holding Donald Trump’s hand is an utter embarrassment,” Ash Sarkar said during an interview on ITV’s “Good Morning Britain,” referring to British Prime Minister Theresa May and Trump’s two-day working visit to the U.K.
“I’d go and check out some basic facts about your hero Obama,” Morgan replied, following a tense discussion between the pair over whether it was “a double standard” to protest Trump when more people were deported during the Obama administration than any other modern presidency.
“He’s not my hero, I’m a communist, you idiot,” Sarkar shot back.
Thousands of people are expected to attend anti-Trump demonstrations around the United Kingdom on July 12, 13, and 14, coinciding with the president’s trip. The U.S. Embassy in London on Tuesday warned U.S. citizens to “keep a low profile” during the anticipated unrest.
