Democrat eats fried chicken at hearing to mock no-show William Barr

Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., brought a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken to a House Judiciary Committee hearing Thursday morning, mocking Attorney General William Barr for canceling his appearance.

The Democrat ate the chicken during the hearing, where Barr was scheduled to testify about special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

“Chicken Barr should have shown up today and answered questions,” Cohen said after the hearing, holding up a figurine of a chicken. “It’s a sad day in America.” He also put the chicken toy on the empty witness desk and posed for photographers.

Barr testified Wednesday to the Senate Judiciary Committee about how he handled the release of Mueller’s redacted report. Some Democrats have since called for his resignation.

He canceled his Thursday appearance before the House panel, citing concerns about the format of questioning set by the Democratic majority. As well as taking questions from lawmakers, Barr would have had to face an extra 60 minutes of questioning from staff lawyers.

Lawyers were not involved in the Senate’s grilling of Barr on Wednesday.
