Former CIA Director John Brennan: ‘Dishonorable’ for Trump to call it ‘an honor’ to meet Vladimir Putin

Former CIA Director John Brennan said it was “dishonorable” for President Trump to show enthusiasm when he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week.

In an interview Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Brennan said Trump, who bills himself as a great negotiator, showed a lack of deal-making prowess ahead of the meeting at the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany.

“He said it’s an ‘honor’ to meet President Putin,” Brennan said. “An honor to meet the individual who carried out the assault against our election? To me, it was a dishonorable thing to say.”

While overseas last week, Trump continued to express skepticism Russia interfered in the 2016 election — though he did allow that they likely did — and he said after his meeting with Putin that the U.S. should move on to other areas of concern.

On Trump continuing to doubt the extent of Russia’s election meddling, Brennan said, “It shows that I don’t think that he demonstrates good negotiating skills when it comes to Mr. Putin.”
