Ginsburg will lie in state in Capitol on Friday — a first for women

The late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will lie in state in the Capitol rotunda on Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced.

Ginsburg, who died on Friday, will be the first woman ever to lie in state in the Capitol.

Civil rights icon Rosa Parks, who died in 2005, is the only woman to lie in honor in the rotunda.

Pelosi, a California Democrat, said the House will hold a ceremony in the rotunda on Friday morning for invited guests.

The ceremony will take place as lawmakers engage in a partisan battle over whether to confirm a new justice to fill Ginsburg’s seat.

President Trump said Monday he planned to announce a nominee by this weekend, after services are held for Ginsburg.

Ginsburg will lie in repose at the Supreme Court on Wednesday, a court spokeswoman said Monday.

Ginsburg is the second woman appointed to the high court and will be the first woman to lie in repose there.
