About a year ago, Coleman Hooper and her husband, Trey, became empty nesters for the first time in almost two decades. They had just started the process of looking for a new home when, abruptly, the search ended at Rockland Ridge.
“We were not planning to move right away, we had just started looking at the gated-community scene,” Coleman said. “We really liked the floor plan here. It’s very livable. It provided the lifestyle that we wanted.”
The 67 villa-style town homes in Rockland Ridge, located off Falls Road in Baltimore County, come standard with three or four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms. At 4,400 square feet, with two-car garages, the homes provide an abundance of space.
Amenities such as finished basements and hardwood flooring, granite countertops and stainless steel appliances in the kitchens come standard in the Keelty-built homes.
“They all have cinder block from the floor to the roof between them, so you’re 100 percent separated from your neighbor,” said Kathy Mannion, sales manager for the community.
The gated community lies just outside the city, but its idyllic setting makes it feel as if it’s miles and miles away.
“It was perfect because I pay county taxes, I’m close to downtown and I’m 10 minutes from Towson,” Katrina Owens said, a one-year resident of the neighborhood. “It’s beautiful because you are set in the back, [and there are] deer running around. It’s not cookie cutter at all.”
Homeowners association fees run about $140 a month, and include all lawn maintenance, snow removal and other services.
“I feel like it’s a resort-type setting,” Mannion said. “We have people who have driven by here for years and don’t know we’re here. We’re really tucked away.”
Even though the Hoopers’ children – ages 23 and 20 – no longer live with them, they feel at home when they visit, Coleman said.
“We have a finished basement with a bar area, a great room, a very large master bedroom,” she said. “It’s more modern than the kind of house you bought 20 years ago.”
