Woman’s body found in Washington Channel

A woman’s body was found in the Washington Channel early Sunday after she went overboard from a boat late Saturday.

Police, helicopters, cadaver-sniffing dogs and divers searched for the woman for hours after they received a report around 10:15 p.m. Saturday that she had gone overboard from a boat with four people on it and did not resurface, said D.C. Fire & EMS spokesman Pete Piringer in a statement.

Her body was found about 2:30 a.m. near the Capital Yacht Club, he said.

D.C. police are investigating the case. Police did not release her name, saying they were trying to notify family members.
