Trump: Anti-Trump FBI agents getting ‘cold feet’ about testifying on ‘Rigged Witch Hunt’ before Congress

President Trump on Monday accused the FBI agents who sent anti-Trump text messages to each other of “getting cold feet” about testifying before Congress, despite the pair being scheduled to appear before two House committees this week.

Former FBI lawyer Lisa Page was subpoenaed by the House Judiciary Committee after delays in arranging for her to give voluntary testimony. She is expected to be deposed in a closed-door joint session of the House Judiciary and House Oversight committees on Wednesday.

FBI agent Peter Strzok, who was having an extramarital affair with Page, is due to appear for a second time before the same two panels on Thursday, but in a hearing that will be open to the public. He was similarly subpoenaed by congressional investigators to ensure his attendance.

Both Strzok and Page were members of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, which Trump routinely calls a “witch hunt.”

The texts between Strzok and Page were closely examined in a June report by the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General.

The report detailed the watchdog’s investigation into the FBI’s handling of its Hillary Clinton probe during the 2016 presidential campaign, as well as the federal government’s ongoing look at contacts between Russia and Trump’s 2016 campaign or transition.
