‘Guccifer,’ accused Clinton hacker, to plead guilty

A Romanian hacker who gained notoriety for claiming to have accessed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s private server will change his plea in a court hearing Wednesday, court documents show.

Marcel Lazar, known as “Guccifer,” is expected to plead guilty to charges of wire fraud and unauthorized access of a protected computer. Lazar has allegedly breached email accounts belonging to members of the Bush family as well as the inbox of Sidney Blumenthal, a well-known Clinton associate.

Lazar was extradited to the U.S. earlier this year after being held in his native Romania.

He has told several news outlets that he broke into Clinton’s controversial private server, a claim that, if proven true, would undermine the former secretary’s argument that no one ever hacked her emails.
