The Washington, D.C., population has largely rebounded from the COVID-19 pandemic, with new data showing the capital has partially reversed peoples’ flight out of the city in recent years.

Census Bureau data show the population of D.C. grew from 687,324 people in July 2023 to 702,250 people in July 2024, marking the first time since 2019 that the city had a population of over 700,000 people. D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser celebrated the achievement as a testament to everything the city has to offer.
