House Judiciary releases majority staff report on second Trump impeachment

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler released on Tuesday a majority staff report for the second impeachment of President Trump.

The 76-page report accuses Trump of “inciting an insurrection at the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential Election.”

Several people, including a Capitol Police officer, died in connection to the violence at the U.S. Capitol last week.

The House is set to vote on impeachment on Wednesday. A two-thirds vote is needed in the Senate to convict. Meanwhile, Vice President Mike Pence rejected calls to invoke the 25th Amendment.

Inauguration Day, when President-elect Joe Biden will be sworn into office, is about a week away on Jan. 20.

The president defended himself on Tuesday, claiming he did nothing wrong.

Trump was first impeached by the Democratic-controlled House in December 2019 on two Ukraine-related charges but was acquitted by the GOP-led Senate.

This time around could be different, with a growing number of Republicans coming out in favor of the impeachment effort.
