Booth at Flower Mart to offer free unclaimed property searches

In an effort to alert state residents who have unclaimed property, Comptroller William Donald Schaefer?s office will host a booth at this year’s 89th annual Flower Mart, which runs today and Saturday at the parks of Mount Vernon in Baltimore.

The office will make available free access to unclaimed property searches at its booth.

“The Flower Mart is truly a great Baltimore tradition,” Schaefer said in a statement. “If you get chance, come out and see all the wonderful flowers, snack on a lemon stick and visit my booth to see if you have unclaimed money out there.”

Financial institutions, utilities, insurance companies and other corporations are required to report to the comptroller any bank accounts, security deposits, wages, insurance benefits and contents of safe deposit boxes that have been unclaimed after three years. Funds remain the property of owners or their legitimate heirs and can be claimed at any time. To search free for unclaimed property, visit www.marylandtaxes.com.
