CNN anchor slammed for comparing Trump presidency to Nazi Kristallnacht massacre

CNN International Anchor Christiane Amanpour marked 82 years since the Kristallnacht massacre in Nazi Germany by likening it to Trump’s presidency.

“This week, 82 years ago, Kristallnacht happened. It was the Nazis’ warning shot across the bow of our human civilization that led to genocide against a whole identity,” Amanpour said Thursday night while showing images on the screen of the two-day massacre in 1938 when violent mobs murdered 91 Jews and destroyed Jewish synagogues, businesses, and homes.

Amanpour continued: “And, in that tower of burning books, it led to an attack on fact, knowledge, history, and truth. After four years of a modern-day assault on those same values by Donald Trump, the Biden/Harris team pledges a return to norms.”

The comparison sparked immediate backlash on social media.

“Never ever take these people seriously ever again,” Federalist Senior Editor Christopher Bedford tweeted.

“This is ⁦⁦@camanpour on⁩ ⁦@CNN⁩ comparing Trump’s tenure to Nazi Germany,” British MEP Ben Habib tweeted. “How the hell is this sort of prejudice tolerated on mainstream media? Third rate rubbish.”

“A glimpse of what so many of the people who control large corporations, the media and Hollywood really think,” Sen. Marco Rubio tweeted. “That the over 72 million Americans who voted for Trump are supporters of the modern day equivalent of Nazi’s.”

Radio host Eric Metaxas tweeted that, “Ms. Ahmanpour should be fired. Fired. FIRED. This is one of the most offensive things ever said on television. But it also reveals a level of ignorance that is frightening.”

A CNN publicist did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Washington Examiner.

Liberals and Big Tech giants have been heavily criticized by conservatives for censorship and “electronic book burning in real time” over the last several years especially during the run-up to the 2020 presidential election where Twitter and Facebook actively suppressed news outlets with inconsistent “fact checks.”

In October, Twitter locked the account of the New York Post, one of the oldest newspapers in the United States, over a report on the alleged business dealings of now President-elect Joe Biden’s son Hunter.

Earlier this month, Democrats, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, floated the idea of what many called an “enemies list” where the names of Trump supporters would be archived in order to harm them, both politically and professionally, in the future.
