Sulaimon Brown gets win in court hearing

A D.C. Superior Court judge has ruled in favor of Sulaimon Brown, telling the D.C. Council that it can’t serve subpoenas by certified mail.

The Washington Post reports that Wednesday afternoon the council’s push for a court order requiring Brown to testify at a council hearing on the Vince Gray administration’s hiring practices hit a snag. The council had tried to serve Brown by certified mail, but a judge ruled that it has to be done in person.

Brown made the same argument to the media after Ward 3 Councilwoman Mary Cheh announced he had been served.

Brown, a former mayoral candidate, has accused Gray of promising him a job in return for continuing verbal attacks on then-Mayor Adrian Fenty while on the campaign trail last summer. In late January, Brown landed a job in the Gray administration with a $110,000 annual salary. He was fired three weeks later when questions about his past were raised.
