Philadelphia Eagles White House visit remains uncertain

Will the Philadelphia Eagles visit the White House after winning the Super Bowl?

That question has become a trending topic on social media. Reports circulating on Monday claimed the team would skip the traditional trip. However, the White House told the Washington Examiner that it was fake news. It is unclear at this point if an invitation has been extended to the team.

When the Eagles won the Super Bowl in 2018, their planned trip to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was canceled by President Donald Trump after some members of the team protested the national anthem.

When asked whether the Eagles would visit Trump this year, offensive tackle Lane Johnson previously indicated it would be a “team decision.” Ahead of the Eagles’ championship win, quarterback Jalen Hurts gave a lukewarm response to the news that Trump would be the first sitting president to attend the big game.

“He’s welcome to do what he wants,” Hurts said. Hurts’s comments came across as apathetic when compared to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce calling Trump’s attendance a “great honor.”

Trump congratulated the Chiefs online after the team won its third straight AFC championship, but he remained silent on the Eagles winning the NFC championship.

The Washington Examiner contacted the Philadelphia Eagles for a statement on a visit this year.

Former first lady Jill Biden, who is known for her love of the Eagles, attended the Super Bowl in 2023, when the Eagles lost to the Chiefs. Earlier in the same season, fans booed her at Lincoln Financial Field at the end of a pregame in October. On that day, she attended the Eagles game against the Dallas Cowboys as part of the NFL’s cancer initiative, called the “Crucial Catch” campaign. Before the game, she met with cancer patients, survivors, and their families.
