On Tuesday, White House press secretary Josh Earnest answered questions about Hillary Clinton’s email scandal, but suggested reporters talk to her campaign, rather than the White House.
Earnest was asked, “Does the president still stand by the statement that he’s certain that Clinton did not endanger national security?”
He replied, “The president certainly stands by what he said in the past on this.” He went on to note that Clinton’s campaign is in a better position to talk about the situation than is the White House, and said he’d refer people to her “able spokesman.”
Earnest was also asked, “And does the White House think that she should participate in that, or, cooperate in that IG investigation?”
“Well, again, I’d refer you to Secretary Clinton’s team for how she handled those questions,” replied Earnest, who then went on to talk about the logistics of the investigation. “I think what is clear from the IG is that they took a broad look at what the Department of State needs to do to make sure that they are in compliance with the relevant rules.”
