Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) spoke out against the Maine governor’s position on allowing transgender women to compete in women’s sports.
Collins said she disagreed and that allowing biological males to claim they are female and compete against girls in athletic competitions is not “safe and fair” and runs counter to the ideals of Title IX. The state has come into the spotlight regarding this issue due to Gov. Janet Mills’s (D-ME) belief that biological boys should be allowed to compete in girls sports and the governor’s refusal to abide by President Donald Trump’s “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” executive order.
