ANNAPOLIS – Maryland’s canines are no longer breaking state law by dining outside, thanks to a measure approved by the legislature on Monday.
In its final hours of the 2011 session, the Maryland General Assembly sent the governor a bill that would enable pet owners to dine outside at restaurants with their dogs.
Opponents said allowing pets in dining areas is unsanitary.
“I think it’s a terrible idea,” said Sen. Delores Kelley, D-Baltimore County. “People are petting their dogs, then handling the menus.”
But Fido handily won, with only three senators opposing the measure.
