The executive director of the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics resigned Monday, the board said in a statement.
Rokey Suleman, who held the job for two years, played a pivotal role in implementing the District’s new early voter regulations last year. The board did not say why Suleman resigned. Ward 4 Councilwoman Muriel Bowser, who has oversight of the board through her government operations committee, said she wasn’t expecting the resignation.
“I didn’t get a heads up,” Bowser said.
Suleman did not respond to a request for comment Monday afternoon.
The board said in a statement that they’re looking for a replacement for Suleman. He has been replaced on interim basis by Paul Stenbjorn, the board’s chief technology officer.
