Trump says administration is ‘liberating towns’ from the MS-13 gangs

President Trump, pushing legislation to crack down on illegal immigration, said Wednesday his administration has been “liberating towns” from MS-13 gangs.

Speaking in the Cabinet Room of the White House, Trump said the immigration bills being considered by the House “will close the dangerous loopholes exploited by criminals, gang members, drug dealers, killers, terrorists. MS-13 is a prime target.”

“Bad people,” Trump continued. “And we’ve gotten many of them out already. …We’re getting them out as fast as we can get them out and we’re freeing up towns. Actually liberating towns, if you can believe that we have to do that in the United States of America. But we’re doing it and we’re doing it fast.”

The House is considering the “No Sanctuary For Criminals Act,” which cuts off federal grant money to cities that don’t turn over illegal immigrants to federal law enforcement. It’s also voting on “Kate’s Law,” the legislation named for 32-year-old Kate Steinle, who was killed by an illegal immigrant two years ago in San Francisco. The bill enhances criminal penalties for those who repeatedly re-enter the country illegally.

“We’re calling on all members of Congress to honor grieving American families by passing these life-saving messages in the house, in the senate and then sending them to my desk for a very rapid signature,” he said.
