Trump, Clinton now running close in Electoral College

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are running close in the Electoral College, according to a new analysis released Saturday.

A Reuters/Ipsos States of the Nation analysis based on a weekly tracking poll in all 50 states shows that the two candidates are nearly even, with the Republican Trump projected to win the key swing state of Florida.

Clinton still has a slight edge in the comparison, but the race has tightened significantly in recent weeks, with several battleground states better contested by Trump.

The analysis is based on a weekly tracking poll of more than 15,000 Americans.

Although Trump has gained on Clinton in a wide range of polls over the past week, a separate Reuters poll indicates that questions about Clinton’s health are not the cause.

The survey, conducted after Clinton appeared to collapse at a Sept. 11 commemorative event last weekend and then her campaign revealed that she was sick with pneumonia, indicated that a “negligible” number of supporters were less inclined to vote for her based on health concerns.

That poll of 1,579 likely voters showed Clinton leading Trump 42 percent to 38 percent nationally.
