Obama statement on bomb incidents coming ‘relatively soon’

President Obama will make a statement “relatively soon” following the New York City and New Jersey bomb incidents this weekend, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said.

“I think the president will have an opportunity to address this later today,” Earnest said during a CNN interview Monday morning. “What we are focused on is making sure that we are letting the federal investigators who are on the job lead the course of this investigation and follow the facts and get to the bottom of exactly what’s happened.

“They are obviously working through the night,” said Earnest, who praised the heroism of the first responders to the incidents that began on Saturday night.

Earnest insisted during the interview that Obama is continuing to receive briefings from his national security advisers on the investigation as it develops. On Saturday, the White House released a statement saying Obama was aware of what was happening.
