Trump resigned from hundreds of positions just before taking office

President Trump resigned from the Trump Organization and hundreds of other entities in which he held some position the day before he took office, according to a letter provided by the White House.

CNN reported the 19-page letter stated Trump resigned from “each and every office I hold.” That fulfills a promise Trump made during a press conference a little more than a week he took office when he announced he would resign from his company and turn it over to his sons.

That plan to distance himself from his company was criticized by Democrats and some ethics experts, who said it wasn’t enough to separate himself from possible conflicts of interest.

The Trump team answered those complaints by saying the president abided by the letter of the law and the president cannot have conflicts of interest due to the leeway allowed by federal statute. Trump is still set to receive reports on how the Trump Organization is doing and all profits from Trump Organization assets held in foreign countries would be donated to the United States Treasury.

The Trump Organization reported to CNN Trump’s sons, Eric and Donald, Jr., are now in charge of the organization, along with Trump Organization executive Allen Weisselberg.
