Vernon Jones blasts Ilhan Omar: ‘Why do you hate Christians?’

Republican congressional candidate Vernon Jones blasted Rep. Ilhan Omar on Sunday for being critical of a video of Christians singing on a plane.

Omar, the Minnesota Democrat, shared a video on Twitter on Saturday evening showing a worship leader playing a guitar with several other passengers joining in singing a song during a flight.

The Minnesota congresswoman expressed disapproval, writing in her post: “I think my family and I should have a prayer session next time I am on a plane. How do you think it will end?”

Vernon Jones, a former Democrat now running as a Republican House of Representatives candidate for Georgia, questioned Omar’s apparent disgust.

“Why do you hate Christians, Ilhan?” Jones asked. “If the freedom of religion we enjoy here in America disturbs you, feel free to pack your bags and head back to Somalia, Sudan, or wherever you’re from. Take your brother with you.”

Other Republicans also rejected Omar’s sentiment of the video.

“In America, Muslims can & do pray in public,” Jose Castillo, a Republican congressional candidate in Florida tweeted.

Cicely Davis, a GOP primary candidate seeking to unseat Omar as representative for Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, said there was a double standard.

“Qatar — a country you’re very familiar with — plays Islamic prayers on the intercom before takeoff on their planes,” Davis tweeted. “They have a designated prayer area & coordinates for Mecca are posted on the screens. It’s no problem. The issue is you hate Christians & Jews & lots of Muslims.”

Another GOP primary candidate seeking to unseat Omar, Royce White, replied: “I’m coming for your seat. Don’t disrespect Christianity! You’re a globalist fraud. You can’t pray in Pelosi’s office! The Democrats you serve don’t believe in God. Their platform is openly anti-God. Minneapolis will not become Mogadishu. We will not bend the knee.”

While Omar has not publicly addressed the backlash her tweet created, she did share a post that pushed back at “right-wingers who hate Ilhan Omar.”

While the context of the original social media video is unclear, Omar shared the video from Twitter account @davenewworld_2, or Fifty Shades of Whey. The video was reportedly shot by a leader of Kingdom Realm Ministries, but the original post appears to be deleted.
