White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham is opening the door open just a crack to reinstating White House press briefings, saying the matter will be considered but that the decision is ultimately President Trump’s.
Grisham, 42, became the new White House press secretary last month after Sarah Sanders left the role. Sanders had phased out the briefings, where members of the press pepper the press secretary with questions about news of the day.
But Grisham told Sinclair Broadcast Group that those briefings could return under her leadership.
“We’re going to talk about it. That’ll be ultimately up to the president,” she said. “The president also — he’s so accessible, so right now I think that’s good enough.”
Grisham said she is still working on getting settled into the new role and meeting with staff. She said that she isn’t too worried about making regular press briefings return right away, as Trump is known for his candor with reporters who question him while he travels.
“He is the most accessible president in modern history so I don’t know what any of the press could complain about,” Grisham said.
“No question goes unanswered, he will take questions on a variety of subjects,” she added.
