President Joe Biden has never spoken with the federal Department of Justice about investigations into his son Hunter Biden or any other family member, and he won’t be involved in any investigations as they occur, White House spokesperson Jen Psaki said Tuesday.
Despite a criminal investigation by the DOJ into Biden’s son and brother, the president believes neither engaged in unethical business deals with China.
JOE BIDEN CONFIDENT HUNTER DIDN’T BREAK LAW OR DO ANYTHING UNETHICAL IN CHINA, KLAIN SAYS
“The president has never had a conversation with the Department of Justice about any investigations into any member of his family,” Psaki told Fox News reporter Peter Doocy. “He said that during the campaign, and he will continue to abide by that. I’d point you to the Department of Justice for any additional steps they would take. They would make those decisions independently.”
Doocy had asked if Biden would support the appointment of a special counsel to ensure the independence of the investigation.
“Is there any concern that [the Justice Department is] not going to be seen as being able to make the decisions independently?” he added. “The White House chief of staff is out saying that the president and his son did not break the law.”
Ron Klain, the president’s chief of staff, made the claims on ABC’s This Week during an interview with George Stephanopoulos. Klain was asked if Biden is confident his son didn’t break the law, and the chief of staff said yes.

Psaki said the president “would echo” Klain’s claims but reiterated that Klain also pointed out during the same interview that the DOJ is independent.
Asked if it was still true that Biden had never spoken to his son about overseas business dealings, Psaki said, “Yes.”
