‘The Glass Menagerie’

Philadelphia’s acclaimed Walnut Street Theatre is bringing Tennessee Williams’ “The Glass Menagerie” to Virginia to mark the 100th anniversary of the playwright’s birth. On Saturday the play will be performed in the Hylton Performing Arts Center in Manassas. An autobiographical memory play, “The Glass Menagerie” takes place in a working-class St. Louis neighborhood and explores strained relationships among members of the Wingfield family: Tom, a young man who works in a warehouse but dreams of being a writer; his sister, Laura, an insecure and sheltered young woman with a physical disability; their mother, Amanda, who yearns for the days of her youth when she was a Southern belle.

Directed by Bill Van Horn, “The Glass Menagerie” will play for one night only. A pre-performance discussion will be held one hour before the performance in the Hylton Center’s Buchanan Partners Art Gallery.

Where: Merchant Hall, Hylton Performing Arts Center, 10960 George Mason Circle, Manassas

When: 8 p.m. Saturday
