Shirt proves poor place to hide a weapon

Fairfax County police arrested a 37-year-old man during a traffic stop in Mount Vernon Woods after he allegedly tried to hide a gun in his shirt while stepping out of his car. Aaron Curtis, of no fixed address, was stopped for a traffic offense Thursday and “began showing signs of suspicious behavior,” according to a department news release. Police disarmed Curtis, who was apparently driving with the weapon in his lap, and took him into custody. He is facing felony drug and gun charges, as well as a charge of driving on a suspended license. – William C. Flook

Have card, will shop

Montgomery County police are hunting for two people who used a stolen credit card for shopping sprees at Sears and Ross Dress for Less stores in Gaithersburg. On Sept. 5, a 52-year-old woman left her ATM card at a bank in Gaithersburg. When she reported her card missing, the bank informed her of charges made on her card that day at the Sears at 701 Russell Ave. and the Ross Dress for Less at 480 N. Frederick Ave. Police say one suspect is a Hispanic male, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall, between 170 and 180 pounds with short dark hair. The other suspect is a Hispanic female, 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 160 to 180 pounds, with shoulder-length dark hair. – Kathleen Miller

Police identify body as homeless woman’s

District of Columbia police have identified the body of a woman found in a Southeast elementary school lot last week as a 21-year-old homeless woman. Charmaine Owens was found nude, her arms bound and her face badly burned, at Wilkinson School on the 2300 block of Pomeroy Road SE. Her death remains under investigation, but police have asked the public for help. Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099. – Bill Myers
