Three killed in Anne Arundel car crashes

Three people were killed Monday in car crashes in Anne Arundel County, police officials said.

Around 5:50 p.m., officers responded to a crash at Davidsonville Road near Rossback Road in Davidsonville.

An initial investigation found that Stephanie Noell Banchero, 26, was driving a 2002 Honda Accord north on Davidsonville Road when the car drifted off the right side of the roadway. Banchero overcorrected and her car went across the double-yellow lines into oncoming traffic.

As Banchero tried to move back into the northbound lane, the Accord collided nearly head-on with a 2000 Cadillac SLS. Both Banchero and the Cadillac’s driver, 70-year-old Mary Elizabeth Corkill, were pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

About an hour earlier, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in the 2600 block of Chapel Lake Drive in Gambrills. Authorities said they believe a 2012 Hyundai Accent hit a wall at the base of a driveway leading to an underground parking garage.

The driver and the passenger were both taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma. The passenger, an elderly woman from Gambrills, died from her injuries. The driver, an eldery man from Gambrills, is listed in critical but stable condition, officials said Tuesday.

The driver and the passenger were related, officials said, but their names haven’t been released.
