Fox Valley Park District awarded $2 million grant

AURORA, Ill. (AP) — The Fox Valley Park District is being given a $2 million grant to expand a fitness center and make improvements at a community center in downtown Aurora.

Gov. Pat Quinn made the announcement on Monday outside the Prisco Community Center. The center’s grant is from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and is part of the Park and Recreational Facility Construction program which provides state funding for renovation and construction of recreation facilities.

Park District officials say the project will triple the current fitness center’s space and meet growing demand.

Quinn says investing in parks and recreation “is investing in our residents and helps us come together as communities.”

Completion of the project is targeted for 2016.
