Paper boats travel Hudson on environmental mission

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. (AP) — A flotilla of paper boats is making a three-week journey down the Hudson River from Troy to New York City to raise awareness of climate change and energy issues.

The handmade canoes, made of manilla paper strips, shellac and wood glue, are a project of the Brooklyn-based boatbuilding collective, Mare Liberum.

The voyage is called “SeaChange: We All Live Downstream.” It will conclude in New York City, where participants will join the Peoples’ Climate March on Sept. 21. The march coincides with the United Nations Climate Summit on Sept. 23.

The paddling activists will be at Peekskill’s riverfront park Tuesday evening to discuss issues related to the Indian Point nuclear power plant.
