Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer took a jab at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, accusing her of violating her own new House rules in her Twitter bio.
“Flagging for the woke leftists,” Spicer said on Twitter, accompanied by a screenshot of Pelosi’s bio. “@SpeakerPelosi’s twitter bio is in violation of her new House rules against using gender specific terms.”
Pelosi describes herself as a “mother” and “grandmother” in the bio, gendered terms some on the Left have said are not inclusive.

Pelosi unveiled new House rules for the 117th Congress at the start of the year, which included a provision to “honor all gender identities by changing pronouns and familial relationships in the House rules to be gender neutral.”
“Democrats have crafted a package of unprecedented, bold reforms, which will make the House more accountable, transparent and effective in our work to meet the needs of the American people. These future-focused proposals reflect our priorities as a Caucus and as a Country – including crushing the coronavirus, addressing economic disparity, combating the climate crisis, advancing inclusion, and promoting integrity in government,” Pelosi said of the new rules.
The new rules do not prevent the use of such language on the House floor but they do amend specific language found in the House rules, such as swapping the word “Chairman” with “chair.”
The rules passed on party lines Monday, 217-206.
Republicans were less than enthusiastic about the rule change, with House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy tweeting that the rules were “stupid” before sarcastically signing off as a “father, son, and brother.”
