Metro is experiencing major delays on the Red Line because of malfunctioning track switches at the Friendship Heights and Rhode Island Avenue stations and because a person fell on to the tracks at Friendship Heights, officials said.
The Friendship Heights switch malfunctioned at 11:08 a.m. and is still under repair. The Rhode Island switch malfunctioned around 12:15 p.m.
The man fell on to the tracks at 11:49 and was unconscious. D.C. emergency officials removed him from the tracks around 12:20. He is now conscious.
Trains are single-tracking around the area, and Metro is requesting shuttle bus service between Friendship Heights and Van Ness.
