Musk and Trump could already be headed for a truce

President Donald Trump and Elon Musk caused a stir on Thursday, exchanging insults on social media. Yet despite the very public rift, reports have emerged that they could be headed for a truce.

Politico’s Dasha Burns reported that White House advisers have scheduled a call between Musk and Trump to resolve their disagreements. She said Trump’s staff encouraged him not to escalate the feud, urged restraint, and suggested he focus on getting the “big, beautiful bill” approved by the Senate.

Then, Trump’s staff allegedly scheduled a call with Musk on Friday to “broker a peace,” Burns reported.

Trump offered little insight into any resolution of the conflict when Burns briefly spoke with him on Thursday night.

“Oh, it’s OK,” Trump told Burns when asked about the feud. “It’s going very well, never done better.”

He then promoted his high marks in approval polls before ending the conversation.

“The numbers are through the roof, the highest polls I’ve ever had, and I have to go,” Trump told Burns.

Musk worked in the Trump administration as a special government employee who led the Department of Government Efficiency until May. He served 130 days in the role before he was required to resign. Shortly after he left, Musk expressed his displeasure with the “big, beautiful bill” that Trump and Republicans have sought to advance through Congress over concerns it would increase government spending and, subsequently, the national debt. This began the rift between Trump and Musk.

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk posted. “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.”

“Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong,” Musk added. “You know it.”

‘ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BREAKUP’: WHAT’S NEXT FOR TRUMP AND MUSK?

After exchanging insults on social media, Musk escalated the feud in two separate posts on his X account. First, Musk accused Trump of being in the Epstein files, which is why they have not been released. Next, Musk agreed with a post that called for Trump to be impeached and replaced by Vice President JD Vance.

Trump followed with posts on his Truth Social account criticizing Musk and threatening to cancel his government contracts.
