Metrobus rider killed by other riders

Update 10:35 a.m.: Metropolitan Police have released the identity of the man fatally shot while riding a Metrobus early Thursday as Demetrius Emmanuel Thompson, 22, of Southeast D.C.

Thompson was found lying in the street, said Officer Araz Alali.

He said it’s not clear how many suspects may have been involved.

A Metrobus rider was fatally shot by other riders while on a bus in Southeast D.C. early Thursday, according to Metro.

The man was shot four times just after midnight while standing in the doorway of the W4 Metrobus in the 2300 block of Alabama Avenue near Suitland Parkway, said Metro spokesman Dan Stessel. Authorities are looking for at least two suspects, he said.

The bus was in the on its way to the Deanwood Metro station when it happened. The suspects were trying to get the victim off the bus, Stessel said.

The man  died while en route to a trauma center, he said.

No one else was reported injured.

The bus has been taken off the road as evidence in the investigation. Investigators will be reviewing video footage from the bus.
